Everything you need to enjoy a day outdoors is available at Athene North Shore. Our accessible restrooms and Wellness Spaces are designed to support the needs of all visitors. Our Concessions Building offers standard and adaptive equipment rentals, as well as snacks and drinks. Don’t forget to join us at the Event Center for a performance. Or two!
Centrally located to all park amenities, a designated restroom building houses five single-user restrooms. The building also offers one restroom equipped with a child/adult universal changing station to allow ample space and privacy for all toileting needs.
Park restrooms are open at specific times to ensure the safety of visitors:
Monday – Friday: 12PM – 8PM
Saturday and Sunday: 10AM – 8PM
We understand the need for private space when exploring new places becomes overwhelming. This designated space offers a quiet, safe space for individuals who may need to take some time away from the weather, noise, or crowds. The Wellness Space also offers a private, quiet space for new mothers to nurse.
Wellness Spaces are open at specific times to ensure the safety of visitors:

Saturday and Sunday: 10AM – 8PM
Want to try a new sport but don’t have the right equipment? No problem! Standard and adaptive outdoor recreation equipment is available for all park users to rent in two-hour increments. And, trained support staff are available if you’d like assistance with set-up, loading or unloading, transfers on to or off of the equipment, and more.
Available rental equipment includes:
Single kayaks (standard, adaptive) – $25
Tandem kayaks (standard, adaptive) – $40
Pedal-powered kayaks – $35
Trolling motor-powered kayaks – $45
Stand-Up Paddleboards – $30
Canoes – $35 Bikes/trikes (standard bikes available via B-Cycle station) – $20
Pontoon boat (driver provided) – $350
Fishing rods – $10 Beach/water wheelchairs – free
Take a break from exploration and stop by the concession building to purchase a variety of pre-packaged snacks and cool beverages. Have a seat at one of the picnic tables near the concession building and enjoy the shade while you relax.
If you’d like more hearty food or sweet treats, be sure to check the North Shore event calendar to see when your favorite food truck may be stopping by the park.
Cozy, and yet large enough to host a nice crowd, Easter Lake Event Building is the place to create connections. Make friends and memories here as you gaze at the lake through the large curtain windows. What a view!
Many of Athene North Shore education and recreation programs begin here. And you can even rent the space for family gatherings or business retreats.
Event space size is 1,285 square feet and the building capacity is 86.
The Rowing Facility is located on the east end of the North Shore and is home to the Des Moines Rowing Club, which has served as a vital partner throughout the fundraising and design processes of North Shore.
The Rowing Facility will be used for Des Moines Rowing indoor programming and boat storage, and the accessible dock will provide a way for individuals of all abilities opportunity to partake in many early morning rows and regattas on the lake.
