Prairie Stomp Summer Music Series at Athene North Shore
Facebook

In June, The Flying Silos certainly soared high with an amazing opening night for the Prairie Stomp Summer Music Series. With more than a hundred people in attendance, the night was a hit for Athene North Shore’s second season of operation. As we near our last live music event for the 2025 season, here is the perfect guide to make the most of these sweet sounding shindigs!

Step 1: Mark you Calendars

In July, Athene North Shore had the pleasure of hosting Joshua Sinclair, a vocalist and guitarist who has toured the country with original hits, many making debuts on TV networks like MTV and NBC. Following his lead will be the band Buckmiller Schwager on August 14th from 6:00-8:00pm. This band is devoted to “keeping the blues alive” and showed this devotion by winning Best Live Artists of Story County in 2023.

Step 2: Crowd the Carpool & Lug the Lawn Chairs

Grab a friend and ride together, or opt to walk or roll down to the beach! Polk County Conservation is eager to create spaces everyone can enjoy and gather, but the parking lot can fill up quickly. Once you arrive, head toward the concession and pick the perfect spot on the grass or along the wide walkways to set up your lawn chair or lay out a blanket.

Step 3: Scream for Local Ice Cream

Once again, Picket Fence Creamery will be available at the concession. With 100% natural milk and a variety of flavors, including strawberry, chocolate, cookies and cream, and vanilla, your night will be made complete with this sweet treat!

Step 4: Keep it Clean

Last but certainly not least, the park closes at 10 pm, so when the sun has set and you’re ready to rest your head, make sure to check what you’re leaving with. Athene North Shore is committed to fostering a clean and safe environment for all visitors, and the community’s help is vital to ensure that the wildlife stays just as protected as park neighbors. Locate the trash cans and gather all your belongings so nothing is left behind or obstructing the furry or feathery friends from their home!

Athene North Shore is excited to partner with local artists to further unite the Des Moines and Polk County community through accessible, public performances. Visit NorthShoreRecArea.org for more information about the park facilities.
